So, 50 Cent's a homophobe. In his Playboy interview, he states:
"I ain't into faggots. I don't like gay people around me, because I'm not comfortable with what their thoughts are. I'm not prejudiced. I just don't go with gay people and kick it—we don't have that much in common. I'd rather hang out with a straight dude. But women who like women, that's cool."
It always cracks me up when people qualify a prejudiced statement by saying they're not prejudiced.
Posted by Shippy at March 12, 2004 11:19 AMLet me translate a bit of that for you: What he says, "I'm not comfortable with what their thoughts are."
What he means: "I'm threatened by a masculine sexuality totally unlike mine and I'm afraid being around them will give me the gay, because they obviously want me."
Who is 50 cent anyway? I bet his rhymes suck. If I remember as much as I can about rap right now, he's the top thug at the moment. I wish he'd bling bling himself to death along with the rest of the thug rapper crews.
Give me rappers like Run DMC who have a positive message, or at least some message other than "I make more money than you and I get the girls.."
/Nothing to see here
Posted by: colin at March 12, 2004 01:30 PMTrue, true ... despite the infectious beats and occasionally creative rhymes, I've never been a huge fan of rappers like 50 Cent and Eminem, whose entire culture seems based around not just misogyny and homophobia, but a general hatred and distrust of absolutely everyone around them.
I prefer "positive" rappers like Del or Kool Keith, who have the prescience and the social consciousness to rap about relevant societal issues facing us today, like intergalactic rap battles between robots and aliens, unethical gynecologists, and helping Dan the Automator build space colonies on Mercury.
Posted by: Shippy at March 12, 2004 02:08 PMI, for one, am shocked. To see a luminous mind like 50's make such a compelling case gives me pause. In light of the profound intellectual and spiritual contributions that will be his legacy, I think we should give this position the respect it deserves.
Let's start a beef with 50 Cent. I can see the VH1 spot now: Jeaun vs. 50Cent. Maybe he'll write a song about shooting us.
I'll start our battle rhyme:
Greenspan (what what)
Greenspan (what what)
East Grinnell definitely in the muthafuckin house.
50 cent aint nevah been to hardees
thats why he talk all retardees
Hey RIAA, let's see you try to litigate
Sorry, was that your leftover China Sea I ate?
Too bad you're not down with homos, Fiddy
They're good dancers even if they gots no titties
You should bust it in da gay club, they got mad liquor
You got shot nine times, where's your rainbow sticker?
Get down to StoneCo and throw man-love a bone
Good thing Sylvia Thorson-Smith's office is a queer-safe zone
50 cent is a really bad rapper. his rhymes suck. i'd rather listen to a rap album by any of you fools -- particularly tim with his mad skills -- or hell, even rabbi darkside. my old boyfriend chicago john (i've decided to name each john i've dated by his appropriate city) would make me listen to it and i can attest that his songs are just stupid. not stupid = stoopit = awesome but instead, stupid = the members of tesla are better songwriters.
Posted by: lw at March 12, 2004 08:12 PMAnd why is it that somehow lesbians are not part of the homophobia?
Posted by: sundaykofax at March 13, 2004 03:24 PMThat's the standard myopia of homophobic males: women doing it with each other are hot, men doing it are gross. There's really no explanation beyond base homophobia with a little objectification of women thrown in for good measure.
Posted by: Shippy at March 13, 2004 06:32 PMSomeone once told me that they think lesbian stuff is hot because it's lookin' at more of what you want. In the case of porno, you're getting all the girly bits without any dick.
It made sense, but only if I squint.
Posted by: sundaykofax at March 14, 2004 01:03 AMmen aren't afraid of their own LESBIAN tendencies.
Posted by: ae at March 14, 2004 01:36 AMOK, I'm going to put it on the table. Two more stanzas and a chorus and that song is done. Garageband is the new MOTU. Someone make some beat track, some breaks. Maybe a couple of people make one. We put them up for download and choose wisely the best. Everyone can record their own vocals, upload the files and we'll mash it all up. What do we think? We need more Intercollaborato-web.
Posted by: ade at March 15, 2004 01:54 PMI do not consider myself homophobic, but given my druthers I would choose to observe some woman on woman loving over 2 guys going at it any day. I do not think the 2 can even be compared in relation to someones feeling on homosexuality really.
